Harold Wayne Taylor

Harold Wayne Taylor

4/10/1943 — 4/22/2026

Long-time Lewiston resident Harold Wayne Taylor, originally of Southeast Missouri, near Dexter, and of Watsonville, Calif., passed away peacefully in his sleep Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at his home in Lewiston, at the age of 83.

He was the doting grandfather of his loving grandchildren Tory Taylor, Ariel Taylor Chuitt and Dylan Taylor, also originally of Watsonville. He also treasured his great-grandchildren Noah, Maddox and Lila.

He is the son of Herman Elmer Taylor, a former sharecropper and lumberman and Ruby Magdalene Landers, both also of Southeast Missouri and California.

Harold was a giant of a man with a gentle heart who was known for his bear hugs and quick wit. Despite great personal loss, he lived with a twinkle in his eye and an optimistic spirit, leaving nearly everyone he met with a smile on their face.

He was born into a farming family and was a hard worker, like his father and grandfather before him. Starting as a carpenter, he became a successful businessman holding many professional contracting and engineering licenses in the state of California. He eventually specialized in well-drilling and water systems for clients including some of the most prestigious growers in the state of California and across the country. He was a patent holder and a master of his trade.

Harold enjoyed friends and family, often hosting his siblings and their families at his home during their younger years. Harold enjoyed long car rides in the countryside, traveling and the highlight of his day was breakfast and coffee in the mornings with family and friends. After he moved to Lewiston, to be closer to his son and grandchildren, he enjoyed this daily ritual right up until the end with friends at the senior center in Clarkston.

Harold was a proud father, but was sadly preceded in death by all three of his children: Gary Taylor, Roger Taylor and Scott Taylor and their mother, Harold's previous wife, Paula.

He was also preceded in death by siblings: Elmer LeRoy Taylor (the late Virgina); an infant brother; Fairry May Taylor Marquis;  Marvin Sylvester Taylor (Agnes); Violet Anne (de la Peña) Taylor (Allen) and younger brother, Sherman Ray Taylor, who died in service at the age of 18 in Vietnam in 1971.

Harold is survived by many close and extended family members and friends, including two of his eight siblings; Larry Dale Taylor (Darlene), of Truth or Consequences, N.M., and Ricky Dean Taylor (Claudia), of Twentynine Palms, Calif. He also leaves behind his adoring daughter-in-law Tiffany Taylor and many adoring nieces and nephews, as well as a number of cousins, across the country.

To say Harold will be missed, is an understatement. He lit up every room he entered and left a warm glow when he left.

A celebration of his life, and that of his son Eric “Scott” Taylor, who passed away last year, will be hosted by his grandchildren, aptly, at 3 p.m., on the Saturday before Father’s Day, June 20, at Hereth Park, 1534 Powers Ave., Lewiston.

The family kindly requests the comfort of your presence. Bring a smile, wear something comfortable and colorful and share your happy memories of this remarkable man. Potluck will be served so feel free to bring a covered-dish or something to share. Coffee and a final birthday cake will also be served.
